Are NewJeans and aespa the new guard?

The latest Instiz Chart featured aespa and NewJeans at the top of the list – a clear indicator that new era of K-pop has begun. aespa’s “Supernova” reached number one on the chart, NewJeans had two singles crack the list with “How Sweet” and “Bubble Gum” reaching number two and number three, respectively.

This is a big deal for both aespa and NewJeans. Being in the top three of a chart like this shows that their popularity is continuing to rise. aespa, in particular, is no stranger to chart success: their first perfect all-kill was "Savage" in 2021. They were the first fourth generation K-pop act to accomplish this feat.

Since their debut in 2022, NewJeans has asserted continued chart dominance with songs like "Attention," "Hype Boy," "Ditto," and "OMG" – not to mention "Super Shy," which was their best-performing track on international charts. It appears that aespa and NewJeans are part of the new guard. We’re living in an exciting age where third, fourth, and fifth generation K-pop groups are seeing massive success at home and abroad simultaneously.

We are excited to see what is next for these groups! They continue to amaze us.
