Taeyeon of Girls’ Generation Introduces New Horror Concept

Singer and legendary South Korean idol Taeyeon has announced a comeback entitled “Heaven.” In a clever turn, the single’s concept art doesn’t appear to reference your typical heavenly imagery. No clouds, no halos, no golden thrones, no rays of light. Taeyeon herself isn’t even pictured. Instead, Taeyeon has revealed dark, grainy, and spooky imagery ahead of the comeback.

Fans online have commented that it appears to be a horror concept. One image is a foggy woodland landscape. The other is a stuffed bear with light refracting eerily on its glassy eyes. While it’s not explicitly horrific, it’s definitely spooky. Time will tell if that juxtaposition between the hellish and the heavenly was intentional or not. We certainly hope it is.

Taeyeon has been a formidable presence in the K-pop industry since 2007 when she debuted with Girls’ Generation – one of the best-selling artists of all time in South Korea and one of the most visible and popular K-pop groups worldwide. She has also been involved in its sub-unit, Girls’ Generation-TTS; SM the Ballad; Girls’ Generation-Oh!GG and supergroup Got the Beat.

"Heaven" drops July 8, 2024 at 6 PM KST.
