Who is Girls’ Generation?

Girls’ Generation (Korean: 소녀시대) is one of the most influential South Korean girl groups of all time. Since their debut in 2007, they have grown in scale and popularity to such a degree that they are referred to as “The Nation’s Girl Group” in South Korea.

Formed by SM Entertainment, the group debuted with nine members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, Seohyun, and Jessica. Jessica left in 2014, and they’ve remained an octet ever since. They had their big break with “Gee,” a single released in 2009 that broke the record for longest #1 spot on Music Bank for nine straight weeks.

The group took a five-year break in 2017 but returned in 2022 with the LP Forever 1.
