Is it possible for a group as huge and as recognizable as NewJeans to “debut” 2 years after they became a band and topped charts all around the world? Apparently yes. NewJeans is about to make their official Japanese debut.
The single, entitled “Supernatural,” will hit streaming platforms everywhere on June 21, 2024.
Accompanying the release of the single is a photoset that’s surprisingly grounded and minimal. Instead of a high concept approach to “Supernatural,” NewJeans merely went on a stroll together through an urban cityscape wearing some iconic and gritty streetwear.
It’s a really great juxtaposition and shows that NewJeans is mostly concerned about being themselves. That’s a bold concept, especially given recent developments behind the scenes. It’s arguably more effective than a set full of broken mirrors, black cats, and indoor umbrellas.
