It’s one thing to translate a song from Korean into English. It’s an entirely different thing to translate a rap into English and then meticulously retool it until the translation flows as seamlessly as the original. But that’s exactly what YouTube creator Jii has done.
Jii’s cover of aespa’s tough-girl anthem “Drama” is a high octane thrill ride that will delight English-speaking fans of the original. Jii’s production, original art, composition, and rap delivery are all superb. They’re further enhanced by an excellent mix by mixing engineer Tora.
aespa fans didn’t hesitate to comment, praising Jii’s ability to hit the high notes, capture the “couldn’t care less” attitude of the original chorus, and her overall vocal ability. Commenters compared Jii’s voice to Yujin from IVE or Winter from aespa.
