Bobby from iKON Begins Military Service

Bobby, the main rapper for the group iKON, began his military service on June 4. He posted this photo on X (previously named Twitter) on June 3 showing off his new buzz cut. The rapper also said in the post that he would be giving fans free ice cream and that he is going to return home safely after his service.

It was originally announced that Bobby would begin his military service on May 21. However, that date was changed to June 4. Bobby will begin his service as an active-duty soldier in the military reserves. His post on X shows that he is still committed to his fans and will continue interacting with them on social media.

Fans are sad to see him go, but followers of the KPOP genre are used to seeing this type of thing happen. Since 1957, all males in South Korea have been required to serve in the military between the ages of 18 and 35. This is included in the country’s constitution and applies to all men in the country and that includes KPOP stars. Most famous musicians don’t have to enlist in the military at the height of their popularity. But this is just one of the quirks of KPOP that fans have become used to. And seeing fans unite to root for their favorite idols is another reason why we love this community.
