Daily Non-K-pop Spotlight: “Oh! What a Shiny Night” by CRYING NUT

This song has much more in common with American power pop from the 90s than it does anything K-pop. Its roomy drums, chugging guitar, and slacker vocals will feel familiar for fans of Fountains of Wayne, Weezer, and The Presidents of the United States of America. But this song further differentiates itself in the back half after dropping into a bridge that screams vintage Rock N Roll. It’s “ooh-wee” backup vocals are heavily influenced by The Beach Boys. It’s great.
